Osteopathy is a system of care centred around the understanding of anatomy and physiology. Osteopathy is a philosophy, and the principles within this philosophy have been used to develop a number of effective hands-on approaches.

The principles are:
1. Structure governs function
2. Circulatory health is of absolute importance
3. The body has a self-healing capacity
4. The body should be considered as a whole and not a set of component parts.

It is a complete natural therapeutic approach, an art, and science with precise palpatory acts.

The founder of Osteopathy – Andrew Taylor Still – created treatment methods based on these principles. Successive practitioners of Osteopathy have respected the initial methods and then used these principles to include, and further the methods of treatment that we use today.

Some of the approaches we may include:

Cranial osteopathy: The mobilization of cranial bones and the system of meningeal tissue attaching within the cranium and to the pelvis.
Visceral manipulation: The mobilization of organs and viscera to optimize function and reduce strain on neighbouring structures.

Joint mobilization: To assist in the release of tension and allow freedom in all joints within the body.

Muscle energy technique: To use muscle contraction to ease pain and tension in both joints and muscles, and allow freedom in all joints and muscles in the body.

Strain Counter-strain: Positioning structures to assist in the relaxation of muscle and fascial (myofascial) tissue tensions.

General Osteopathic Technique (GOT) – a rocking and shaking movement designed to assess and treat myofascial tensions.

Myofascial/scar tissue release/trigger point therapy: a tissue engagement to release myofascial tensions.

Biodynamic approach to osteopathy in the cranial field: "The primary therapeutic force in the Biodynamic Model is the Health of the patient or Primary Respiration. Rather than applying an external force, both hands are engaged in an attentive waiting and listening and the motion present in the lesion field is accessed through synchronization with the inhalation phase of Primary Respiration. While these concepts, and the treatments, are subtle and always gentle, the results tend to be profound". ~Jennifer Weiss D.O.

The treatment is a movement towards treating the Whole.
The Health of the patient is greater than the wisdom of the (operator).
The embryonic forces of growth and development are present in the adult and are working as forces of regeneration and healing.

We remain open to the idea that Osteopathy will continue to evolve and new approaches will continue to develop.

Andrew began university studies with an interest in philosophy and kinesiology, but after a back injury at the age of 22, began a different journey to relieve his own excruciating pain.

After receiving treatment from multiple disciplines without change he was referred for osteopathic care, which stopped his pain and allowed his body to heal. This inspired him to investigate this model of healing.

He studied osteopathy at the Canadian College of Osteopathy (CCO) in Toronto, Ontario. He graduated in 2017, after completing and defending his thesis entitled “The Effects of Global Osteopathic Treatment on Post-Traumatic Chronic Tinnitus: A Pilot Study” earning the designation D.O.M.P. for completion of the program, D.Sc.O. for completion of the thesis, and the title Osteopathic Manual Practitioner (OMP). He has been a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) since 2000.

Andrew is currently in private practice in Dundas, ON and has a special interest in treating people who are experiencing back pain, and post-concussion syndrome.

He is currently engaged in post-graduate studies, learning about the Biodynamic approach to Osteopathy in the Cranial Field.

Andrew is a member in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO), the Registered Massage Therapist’s Association of Ontario (RMTAO), the Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (OAO), and through that association is a member of the Canadian Federation of Osteopaths (CFO), the Osteopathic International Alliance (OIA), and the European Federation of Osteopaths (EFO).

Marcy Hull is available to assist you with osteopathic care.

She studied (and continues to do so) Anthropology at McMaster University, and Massage Therapy at Kikkawa College where she graduated in 1999. She began studying manual osteopathy at the Canadian College of Osteopathy in 2002, and graduated in 2017.

Her thesis was entitled “The effects of Osteopathic Treatment on Low Milk Supply: a pilot study. She has continued post graduate studies in the Biodynamic approach to osteopathy in the cranial field.

She treats all people who need assistance, and has a wide range of experience with many presentations. She approaches mechanical issues, and pain issues with a whole person perspective. As a result, patients often experience relief of symptoms in a short number of visits.

She has a special affinity for working with babies and children with oral and feeding challenges, and works in harmony with Lactation consultants, Dentists, Physiotherapists, and Occupational therapists to assist babies to experience ease of development.

She has in the past worked to support those who present with mood disorders, and adults with ADHD.

She recently retired (2024) from her membership with the Canadian College of Massage Therapists (CMTO) where she was a member in good standing since 1999.
